Reflections: A Wardrobe of Life Lessons” By Linda Styles Berkery (The Troy Book Makers)

If you’re a lover of author Anna Quindlen, then you’ll enjoy this collection of 14 essays written by Latham resident Linda Styles Berkery.  Each essay was prompted by a dress and they reflect her childhood in Troy, her memories of growing up in the Styles Funeral Home and her memories of her dad, a World War II combat pilot and POW.  These essays will make you laugh and cry.

One of the most powerful languages is the language of clothes. We write stories every day when we get dressed – but few people translate that language as beautifully and artfully as Linda Styles Berkery. Her new book will make you laugh and cry, but its true offering is that it will make you reflect on your own life and the memories in your wardrobe. This book is a gift.

Both Linda’s father and mine were combat pilots and POWs in World War II. From her father’s second chances, Linda learned to appreciate life and love and express gratitude. This wonderful collection of stories captures Linda’s expereinces in all their dimensions, framed in a unique way by dresses which lovingly connect her to fammily, friends and places across the decades. Linda has learned her lessons well and we should be grateful she’s sharing them with us. I love this collection!
